This is a second attempt at watercolors. Original size of paper was A2 and the theme was 'apple' with no refs so they end up looking kinda abstract. Which is your favourite?

I must say I learned a lot about controlling the water flow, which is never easy since the colors tend to bleed and create fugly smears and water stains. It's still not very good, but I hope to improve with time.

Time taken: Around 3 hours.
Tools: Cold-pressed watercolor paper, Mantegna Water Colors, color contrast tweaked in PS.

Oh, btw art school rocks. :)

I like the second from the left on the bottom. I like it when the colors bleed into each other
and mix. I'm just learning to paint with watercolors. Are the colors supposed to stay seperate? I don't know.
I like these, though, although they look more like abstract earths to me! Thank you for this work.

This work is so old it's almost embarrassing, but I am glad you like these. There are a few approaches to watercolors, but what differentiates it from other medium is its water flow and transparency. The bleeding and mixing can be fun but it requires tons of practice to get it to "look right" without undesirable spills and a muddled painting.

There are those who paint watercolors in an opaque manner with minimum water flow a la acrylics, but that undermines the nature of watercolors personally.

Hope that helps, watercolors are oodles (and puddles) of fun. :)
